Gallery - Before and Afters Breast Reconstruction with Autologous Tissue Patient 1 This patient is one of Dr. Goyal’s first DIEP flaps performed in Richmond, Virginia. Her preoperative photos are unavailable but man is she happy with her postoperative results! She underwent bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy due to a strong family history of breast cancer. If you peek under her breasts, you can see the skin from her abdomen, which was left in place to keep her breast shape natural. Patient 2 This patient elected to undergo skin-sparing mastectomy as opposed to nipple-sparing mastectomy. She underwent staged DIEP flap reconstruction and skin from her abdomen was used to reconstruct the space where her nipples had previously been to create an aesthetic shape. She is not interested in nipple tattooing at this time. Patient 3 This patient had a failed implant reconstruction by another surgeon followed by radiation. Her only option was autologous reconstruction. Unfortunately her insurance plan was out of network with all of the community plastic surgeons - but Dr. Goyal was able to make it work (at no extra out of pocket cost to the patient)! She underwent bilateral breast reconstruction with DIEP flaps and a subsequent nipple reconstruction on the right breast. She will plan to tattoo her right areola in the near future. Patient 4 This patient was previously diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent lumpectomy and radiation therapy. She was diagnosed another time later in her life and decided to undergo bilateral skin-sparing mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction. She was worried about her postoperative mobility but ended up recovering very well after surgery!
